Cancer Risk Reduced by One-Third with Diet and Lifestyle

Author of Single Source Cancer Course Talks about Cancer Prevention, Screening and Treatment

Interview with Susan Wilking Horan, May 14, 2012, on Sharon Kleyne Hour Power of Water

Cancer is the number-two cause of death in the US and Britain (after heart disease) and is number-one in many countries. Worldwide, Cancer is responsible for 13% of all deaths. Cancer rates are rising everywhere due to changes in lifestyle and the environment.

According to Susan Wilking Horan, author of Single Source Cancer Course, we may not be as powerless against cancer as these statistics indicate. Her book concludes that one-third of cancers could be prevented through diet and lifestyle changes and another one-third could be prevented or minimized through screening and early detection.

Susan Wilking Horan discussed cancer prevention, screening and treatment with Sharon Kleyne on the Sharon Kleyne Hour Power of Water radio talk show on May 14, 2012. Podcasts of the interview may be heard on WorldTalkRadio.com and Sharon Kleyne Hour.com.

Horan explained to Sharon Kleyne that she is a three-time cancer survivor who concluded that one cause of cancer mortality is a feeling of hopelessness and loss of control. In an effort to take control of her health, she began studying on her own and came to several important conclusion about cancer that she believes will save lives. .

Sharon Kleyne has also studied cancer mortality and agrees that attitude and the "will to live" play a far greater role than most researchers realize.

According to Horan, cancer will probably never be eradicated but rates can be significantly reduced. One-third of cancers could be prevented by paying attention to what everyone knows are the basics of good health.

  • Plenty of water
  • Proper diet (avoid processed foods, sugar and excessive meat/fat)
  • Regular exercise
  • Adequate sleep
  • Stress reduction
  • No tobacco<
  • Sunscreen and sun protection

Screening and early detection can take another one-third off your chances of getting cancer, for a total risk reduction of 66.7 percent. In the process, you will also lower the risk of or delay the onset of coronary artery disease, arthritis and other diseases often associated with aging. If you follow a healthy lifestyle, even if you do develop cancer, it may not be as serious.

Regarding cancer treatment, Horan recommends involving the family and taking strong control of your diagnosis and treatment. Horan and Kleyne agreed that the doctor should be there to advise, not dictate, and that only you can decide what's best for you. If your doctor makes you uncomfortable, find another doctor. It's important to make informed decisions but it's often also necessary to make decisions quickly and under stress. That's when family support can be invaluable.

With Wilking's first cancer, she was unprepared, did not know she was at risk and it took her hears to recover. With her third cancer, she had the knowledge, the lifestyle habits and the support so she was in charge from the beginning, caught it early and recovered quickly.
