The topics were the book "The 100 Year Lifestyle" by Eric Plasker, MD, and the nutrition and lifestyle teachings of the late Jack LaLanne.

Proactive personal responsibility.

Sharon Kleyne teaches that climate change, population growth and pollution are creating serious health challenges leading to a global crisis in dehydration diseases such as dry eye, preventable blindness and mortality. This is true not only in poor countries but in the United States.

The 100 Year Lifestyle is a book (Adams Media, 2007) and self-improvement program offered by Eric Plasker, MD. The book points out that experts project a 746% increase in people living to be 100 in 2020. Chances are you will live longer than your ancestors and you can choose to merely survive or to truly live. Dr. Buckley and Dr. Plakser point out that a healthy lifestyle is an ongoing process involving personal responsibility and there are no shortcuts.

The life of Jack LaLanne.

Jack LaLanne passed way in 2011 at the age of 96. He hosted a TV exercise show from 1950 to 1984 and was a "man ahead of his time," preaching exercise, diet, nutrition and a healthy lifestyle long before they became popular. His message is now widely embraced. LaLanne was also a fitness club owner, competitive body builder and entrepreneur. He was last seen on TV in his nineties, promoting a juicer machine. He is considered the inventor of "smoothies." He was also a graduate chiropractor and had been a professional wrestler.

LaLanne was most famous for his annual "feats of strength," usually involving swimming in SanFrancisco Bay while handcuffed, towing a long line of boats. He did this well into his sixties.

He was the first well known nutrition and fitness expert (aside from John Harvey Kellogg, who is no longer taken seriously). LaLanne has never been replaced.
