Vietnam Navy Pilot Reveals He Carried Extra Water Not Gun in Survival Kit

Former Navy Pilot W.S. "Bud" Orr Discusses Water, Survival Kits and Military Families on Sharon Kleyne Hour Power of Water

To survive when your plane goes down on a combat mission, reports longtime Navy Pilot and Vietnam veteran Captain W.S. "Bud" Orr, the most important item in a survival kit is not a gun but water. Speaking to host Sharon Kleyne on the Sharon Kleyne Hour Power of Water radio show, Orr stated that in his military survival kit in Vietnam, he always placed extra water ahead of guns or even food.

According to Orr, the Navy had a weight limit on survival kits that pilots could carry on planes in Vietnam. He was the only Navy pilot who substituted extra water for a weapon. A human can survive for weeks with no food, Orr explains, but without water, they can only survive two or three days at the most. Also, a badly dehydrated person may not think as clearly in a hostile environment as a hungry person who is not dehydrated.

Captain Orr was a Navy pilot for 27 years. As a combat pilot in Vietnam, he made over 1,000 carrier deck landings. He later worked for 20 years in the aerospace and defense industry. With his wife Fran, Orr is author of Love at First Flight: Adventures, Exploits, Sacrifices, Risks, Rewards (Astor, 2012). Both Captain Orr and Fran Orr appeared with radio host Sharon Kleyne.

The book talks at length about Orr's 36 year marriage and his belief that heroism and patriotism are often the result of a group effort. He sees his wife, and all military families as heroic, patriotic, and worthy of recognitions because of their sacrifices, support and commitment.

Orr quickly adds that there are a host of benefits to being in the military for both soldier and spouse. In his wedding to Fran, he flew her to the Philippines and they were married on the deck of the USS Enterprise. In addition to being a patriot, hero and military wife, Fran Orr is a realtor, entrepreneur and author of several children's books,

Captain Orr was raised in Grants Pass, Oregon, where Sharon Kleyne's water research center, Bio-Logic Aqua Research, is located. Orr is a longtime personal friend of Sharon Kleyne and her late brother, Economist Ronald Cowin, also a decorated Viet Nam veteran and Purple Heart recipient. As a Navy pilot, Orr developed a deep appreciation for the "Power of Water," especially relating to military survival kits.

Sharon Kleyne, as Founder of the Bio-Logic Aqua Research Center, has been researching water and dehydration for three decades. Bio-Logic Aqua Research bottles the product Natures Tears EyeMist. Mrs. Kleyne has hosted the worldwide syndicated talk radio show Sharon Kleyne Hour Power of Water since 2007. Kleyne's interview with Captain Orr may be heard in podcast any time on VoiceAmerica's Variety and Health and Wellness Channels, www.sharonkleynehour.com and Apple iTunes radio.
